The history of Chateau La Bourguette
The history of Château La Bourguette probably traces back to the Roman times. During the Roman times, it is rumoured that grapes were grown in Château La Bourguette to produce wines. Although this part of history could not be verified, we know for sure that Château La Bourguette was established in the Guyenne area way before the 17th Century, when the area was occupied by the English.
Besides being a vineyard during Roman times, Château La Bourguette has other very interesting history. In the 1700s, Château La Bourguette was the hunting lodge for a Duke of Richmond. Then during the oxcart period, Château La Bourguette assumes the role of a trading center. People came to Château La Bourguette to trade Dutch hearth-plates for barrels of wine. Some of these plates can still be seen in fireplaces around Château La Bourguette.
